Despite large numbers of visitors to Boston each year, the city did not have a convention center sizeable enough to house large conventions and exhibitions.
"This project has been one of my top priorities," said Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino. "Boston has always been one of the top visitor destinations in the country, but we did not have the space to accommodate big conventions and trade shows.
Rafael Vinoly Architects PC was tasked with designing a building large enough to accommodate hundreds of thousands of people, with a visually striking appearance that would set it apart from Boston's already full skyline.
Designwall 1000 Series™ allowed architects to create custom shapes and widths that define the unique, sweeping facade of the convention center.
This building was described by Boston Globe as "the best of its kind in the country."
